Well, except sound and graphics, where Prime surpasses them all. The new Metroid stands with the very best of modern games in almost every important respect. The intriguing story, moody atmosphere, and spooky thrills of Resident Evil. The ingenious level design and devious puzzles of Zelda's best dungeons. The intense yet strategic combat of Halo. Metroid Prime 4 aims for a release this year.

An insider named Belmont (on Resetera) seems convinced plans for Prime 2 and 3 were scrapped. No journalist/insider seems able to get a clear, straight answer on Nintendo's plans for Prime 2 and Prime 3. It's currently unknown whether Nintendo scrapped/cancelled future plans for remasters/remakes of Prime sequels. Prime 1 remaster is a bit more ambitious than anticipated. Metroid Prime 1 finally wraps up development. Everything has become more complicated. Many game developers are now working from home. Covid-19 pandemic has a negative impact on the entire game industry. (Prime 1 would be developed and released first) Original plan: Prime Trilogy games would be developed and released sequentially. Original plan: Core work (engine, art assets) on Prime 1 could "potentially" lead into sequels: Prime 2 and 3. Nintendo begins looking for external studios to provide additional help + assistance to Retro Studios. Retro now has less time to work on trilogy, so they focus energy on finishing Prime 1. But Nintendo hands Metroid Prime 4 to Retro Studios. Retro initially intended to remaster/remake the entire Metroid Prime Trilogy. This was kind of an overly long and aimless reply but my main "point" is that we're in very strange times and that next year will be interesting no matter what. It's a very weird time right now, and arguably the biggest contributor to that is their two biggest collaborators, Game Freak and HAL, shipping shockingly ambitious games in the first half of the year. Things are also seem more challenging to predict than usual.ĮPD 8 (3D Mario) has had a fairly consistent 3-4 year gap between major projects since Galaxy, but we seem to be past that (unless Bowser's Fury was it)ĮPD 9 (Mario Kart, ARMS) is off in the woods or somethingĮPD 10 (2D Mario, Pikmin 3, Big Brain Academy) has a new game but who's to say what their biggest project isĮPD 4 (LABO, Game Builder Garage) has something out most years now it seemsĮPD 7 (Tomodachi internally with a bunch of collaborations) could possibly be due to have a Tomodachi 3 outĮPD 5, coincidentally, has Splatoon coming out Click to expand.Somehow we've found their biggest teams in lockstep, I think in part due to the impacts of the pandemic.
